We have owned many late model FJ40 over the last twenty-one years. However, it has been a few years since we have even seen one in this condition, not to mention had one to offer up for sale. We have cared for this truck since 2003 (with 85k miles), and it has been in SoCal since new. Back in 2003, we did a comprehensive Stage One restoration, ensuring that all systems were back within OEM specifications and tolerance. This mechanical restoration included rebuilt manifolds, new carb base plate, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, valve adjustment, all vacuum lines upgraded to silicone, fuel/air/fuel filter, water pump, thermostat, all hoses, heater control valve, all belts, radiator, rebuilt transmission and transfer case, new clutch assembly/master/slave, rebuilt front axle (including burfield seals and all bearings), rear axle seals, all fluids, brake shoes/drums/DBA rotors/cables/wheel cylinders, new steering arms & ends, rebuilt relay box, Old Man Emu suspension system, new catalytic converter and more.
As proof of the value in doing such, we only did minor maintenance on the truck through to 2013, when we replaced the power steering pump. This year, in preparing it for sale, we replaced the timing cover gasket, did a valve adjustment, new oil pan and gasket, new fuel filter, air filter, PCV/hose/ grommet, F/R transfer case output seals, full tune-up, new radiator, rebuilt alternator, new starter, new battery, U-joints and re-balanced the driveshafts and more. Next, we sold it and the new owner had us powder coat the exterior silver and white trim in gray. We cleaned and coated the floors in Line-X, replaced the rubber seals on all four doors, fit a Warn 8274 winch, 5 x new BFG A/T 33 x 10.5 tires and upgraded the headlight.
Before we could finish the requested upgrades, the new owner fell in love with an ICON FJ40. So, he then had no use for this exceptional stock FJ40. The paint appears to all be original from the factory. There is no rust, and the body is simply epic. The upholstery is original and in great shape. OE dash pad has no cracks. This is a great and seldom seen opportunity. The most evolved and drivable version of the epic FJ40.
