This vehicle came to us in all original condition in October of 2014 for a complete Stage Three restoration, with 149,823 original miles. It received the most comprehensive restoration process you will find anywhere, plus it was upgraded during that process in multiple ways.
As these FZJ80’s age, we are seeing a significant increase in demand for this level of quality work. This is the first one we have done that has come back up on the market for sale. This was a very expensive, labor intensive process, and the result is a vehicle that has been completely gone through and upgraded, ready for any adventure you care to throw at it! We recommend you view the video, as it is very comprehensive. However, here is our best effort to encapsulate everything that was done in a clear list.
First of all, Stage Three is our highest level of quality. The vehicle was stripped down to the bare frame. The body was prepped and painted on a fixture (all torn apart), then reassembled with all new trim, weather stripping plus zinc-plated hardware in the two original color finishes. All OEM exterior plastics are new, as well as the windshield. A very high-quality re-paint in white metallic with black textured paint lower details was applied to the body. Before reassembly, the entire underside of the body was coated in heat-cured poly urea. When reassembled, the interior roof, doors, quarters and floors were coated in Dynamat heat/sound deadening products and the complete body was Ceramic Pro coated for maximum protection from the elements, and ease of maintenance.
Exterior upgrades are numerous, including Slee front bull bar, custom Slee dual pivoting carrier rear bumper with tire carrier and ladder plus upgraded stainless latches, rock slider steps, Warn M8000 winch with synthetic cable, aux LED lighting, upgraded headlights, ghosted stock turn/marker/tail lights, Front Runner low-height roof rack, LED reverse light and more.
The interior was fully restored and upgraded. New seat power motors replaced as needed, all new top quality black and mocha leather was applied to the restored seats and door panels. The dash pad is new OEM. Upgraded audio system features Pioneer NEX8200 with CD, HD, AM/FM, Carplay and more, with JL amplifier and sub-woofer. JL and Kenwood speakers are fitted into the stock locations. A power port was added to the center console and ICON aircraft grade sun visors were added as well.
The chassis was media blasted and powder coated in black MIL Spec I, then reassembled with zinc coated original or new upgraded hardware. All suspension is new Old Man Emu, with all new bushings, shocks and steering stabilizer.
Steering system was completely refreshed, with a rebuilt box, all new plumbing and new arms & ends. Front and rear axles are fully restored and upgraded with DBA cross drilled & slotted brake rotors plus stainless-steel brake lines replacing the OEM rubber lines. Burfield seals, axle seals, all bearings etc. are new OEM. The brake booster was rebuilt, and a new master cylinder was fit.
The powertrain was massively upgraded with a new 5.7 LS generation fuel injected aluminum block V8 (430HP, 425lb-ft TRQ), mated to a GM 4L65E automatic with overdrive and a rebuilt transfer case bolted to the rear. The full-time 4x4 system was maintained. All new Griffin radiator/fan cooling pkg., plus custom air intake manifold, ceramic coated dual exhaust and performance ignition tuning.
The OEM harness was fully inspected, restored as needed, and refit. Instrument cluster gauges modified to work with GM drivetrain and USB ports added for convenience.
Currently, the truck has miles, and remains in top condition. We inspected and serviced it in preparation for resale. No notable wear. Please note that the video is back from when originally delivered, but all photos (except process images) are current.
